Barberry Root Bark, Cut, 2oz

Berberis vulgaris

Barberry shares many properties with its Northwestern counterpart Oregon Grape Root. A bitter herb originally from Europe, it is now cultivated in North America for both ornamental and medicinal purposes. Barberry has been shown to be beneficial in back pain, resulting from kidney weakness or congestion. Barberry is a disinfectant and helps relieve pain during urinary infections. It acts as an antispasmodic and relieves pain from kidney stones and helps clear urine with thick mucus or red sediments. Barberry is also useful for many liver and gall bladder problems, hepatitis, and cirrhosis. It assists in detoxification from effects of poor diet, medications or drugs and helps stimulate the immune system.

Used for kidney and bladder infections, kidney stones, nephritis, diabetes, and hemorrhoids. Strengthens the heart muscle, used as a tonic, and helps disorders of the spleen, liver, pancreas, and small intestines. Used as a diuretic. Good for female disorders. It was found in wide use for infections of all parts of the body because of its astringent, or "drying", action.
